kalin666 ::: Favorites This is exactly the type of response I was hoping for. I think it might take a person from a mixed, or more diverse, background to be able to put aside the emotions of talking about race and get down to objective science. 07-07-29 22:38:40 _____________________________________________________
kalin666 ::: Favorites You're probably right that not enough time has passed for significant changes to occur in the neurophysiology of different peoples. However, things like sickle cell anemia still catch my attention and maybe we are more diverse than just the color of our skin. 07-07-29 22:41:58 _____________________________________________________
AtheistAaron ::: Favorites It's true that there are distinct differences between genetically close groups of people, but I do think that the word "race" is too narrow to use accurately. Outside of extremely xenophobic and exclusive cultures like, say, Japan (and even they are getting more "interracial couples"), the lines are blurring, not becoming more defined. Great video! 5 stars. 07-07-30 11:35:33 _____________________________________________________
wulf8121 ::: Favorites I think that there is a difference between what causes sickle cell anemia and brain structure. Malaria is a consistent environmental pressure on a population which, through natural selection, promoted the genetic mutation of anemia. However, I cannot think of a constant environmental pressure that would cause humans to evolve higher intelligence in the past 60,000 years. 07-07-30 21:41:00 _____________________________________________________
wulf8121 ::: Favorites I mean, yes, there have been things like ice ages but those have effected humans globally, not humans in one particular region... But then we could talk about sexual selection instead of sexual selection....BAH!!! I guess ill just say that its my belief that there isn't a correlation between ethnicity and intelligence. 07-07-30 21:41:19 _____________________________________________________
wulf8121 ::: Favorites * i mean sexual selection instead of natural selection 07-07-30 21:42:18 _____________________________________________________
wulf8121 ::: Favorites but my belief isnt science 07-07-30 21:42:51 _____________________________________________________
kalin666 ::: Favorites it is if it's a hypothesis! 07-07-31 23:39:27 _____________________________________________________
kalin666 ::: Favorites I just read a sci-fi novel, a prelude to the game Mass Effect (which is probably going to be the game that makes me by an xbox 360, but anyway . . .) and the author went into detail about the effects of mixing ethnicities over the ages. Boon to health at the expense of phenotypes like blond hair disappearing. 07-07-31 23:45:52 _____________________________________________________
dankwilliams ::: Favorites good vid. 07-08-04 19:00:53 _____________________________________________________
teloiv2 ::: Favorites The human brain is like a bucket which stores memory bytes (if you will) and you're level of intelligence correlates to how full your bucket is. You get your memory bytes from your environment - NOWHERE ELSE. If Einstein had lived in a darkened room his whole life he would not have invented ANYTHING! 07-08-11 14:43:58 _____________________________________________________ |
