I agree. It hold up really well even today. Including the music (apart from the bongos, maybe).

Ironically the title sequence was VERY definately reality TV - the crash is of the M2-F2 Lifting body (shuttle prototype) in May 1967. The Pilot Bruce Peterson was very badly injured and almost died. He directly inspired the show, however he didn't receive an new bionic eye when he lost his own in the crash...

I strongly agree! The older T.V. shows were meant to escape reality. Like Batman(BIFF,BAM), and Spiderman in his P.J.'s with the silver eyes, Fantasy Island(was he magic?), Man from Atlantis(fishman), Threes Company(nobody's that stupid) and Manimal(speaks for itself). They also have missed the point of video games, with these ultra-realistic war games! Video games were invented to "escape" reality, not reacreate it!

Isn't this the point of tv? Escape-ism? I don't get this reality show thing. Why should I watch other people's crappy lives? I'm trying to escape my own. Bring back shows like this! Screw reality tv!

When you think about all the pieces of film and audio that were combined to make this title sequence, it's even more impressive. No computer effects back then. They pointed a camera at a radar screens, digital readouts, and flashing lights and superimposed the film. It all flows together so well because somebody was a brilliant editor.
