The problem is government as a whole, not wether that government is a mix of democrat and republican. In all honesty our current government is equal parts democrat and republican currently and it's an obvious mess. The unity08 movement is approaching government reform from the wrong angle. There will be no reform... government needs to be abolished. Limited government, freedom, liberty and free markets need to be the norm once again.

I don't disagree with you viewpoint, but no one can do what you suggest better than Ron Paul, and if he isn't the Republican primary winner--there is no better way to get him elected than unity08. Am I wrong?

A friend of liberty is a friend of mine. As a libertarian I will absolutely be voting for Ron Paul. Why do you propose that a misguided and unprincipled political group like unity 08 offers such a strong path?

First of all, I'm libertarian/anarcho-syndicalist and will not only be voting for Congressman Paul in the primary, but will be attempting to be made a state delegate (or at least vote in that election). I think he has a real chance of getting the GOP nomination if the level of activism surrounding the Ames straw poll keeps up.

(continued) As for Unity '08, their principle seems to be to give people a voice in a more democratic way than they have with either party. They're selecting their nominees *online*! I haven't even seen any pair-ups being proposed outside the unity08 site besides Paul/Gravel!

... And that's actually a pretty viable ticket. Take the basics of RP's message as a starting place- he'll have his work cut out for him just disbanding all the executive branch agencies that he can. His desire to disband the IRS, etc worries a lot of people who hear is message, even if they rail against the same institutions whenever they're force to be involved with them. A split ticket could sooth some of those fears: "Our progressive/democrat is watching out for us!".

(the 500 char limit sucks hard) Meanwhile, Mike Gravel as vice could, instead of jetting around the world for ceremonial meetings, *work*, with the progressive movement, which has been repeatedly betrayed by democrats, on modernizing our democracy. Giving more power to the individual so that we can prevent the kind of long-term corruption, gerrymandering, etc that we're suffering through.
