solo-royster from simple to very complicated fills, he almost always have to play out all the subdivisions, but if you watch solo of carter, you'll notice more technique, and less counting-out-everything and fills that dont show anything except that he is very very fast. But drumming was never about playing fast. Not even solo, playing at a high speed may be a very good skill to have, to make fills others cant do, but if thats all he use as his 'climax' for his solo, then it gets boring fast.

as a drummer, even the music they play is different, you can clearly see how experienced carter is, the way he is always supporting the band, very good layering, very clean and accurate, and he always give space to others to make the whole sound more balanced, because of that, it creates alot of groove.

For royster, he solos alot, even when hes not soloing. If the level of guitar was 30%, bass 20%,keyboard 15%, then drum should be about 35%, but hes at 80-90%, sometimes even more. Less is more, more is less. When carter give space to other instruments, it makes the music sounds alot better, THEN when he plays his part, it sounds even better. But if you are playing 64th the whole time, it gets boring real real fast. Never over play... just my 2cents, plz dont bash me =]

both great, incomparable in my opinion. two great improvisors always stretching the limits of the instrument from every angle.

this comparision is BS..... I mean Carter has much more experience. His set up is absolutey perfect. He does not miss any miss any note. Roysters set is still developing. He does not already decided how to set up definetely. (i mean thats ok) Carters set sounds absolutely great. I mean that guy knows how to tune a kit. Roysters drum kit sounds cheasy. Especially the 8th tom.

Carter is so sick. He looks so effortless while Tony looks like he's really pushing himself. I love Tony's syncopation, but I have to give the adv. to Carter. I think he could whip anyone's ass with just a snare and high hat.

Chops - Tony Flavor - Carter But both have unhumanly grown since these videos and that's what counts. And also there are great drummers

I don't think you should get caught up in the comparison of these two great individuals. Rather focus on what their contributions are to the situations they perform in. I have had the pleasure of seeing both of these guys live and I don't think about is tony better than..... or carter sounds like.... I just enjoy what they are sharing musically.
